Lysosome is an organelle in the cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells containing degradative enzymes enclosed in a membrane.

Here's a video to watch on the function and Definition of Lysosome with a quiz at the end.

  2. I agree that the Lysosome is very important for the cell, but the lysosome relies on the chromosomes to tell it what to do. Did you know that the chromosomes are the instructions for the cell? Without the "instructions" how will the lysosome know how to protect the cell and do its job? So lysosomes are very important but they have no use without the chromosomes, whats the point of an organelle when it doesn't know how to preform its task? Vote chromosomes because all organelles are useless without it. Chromosomes are the key to life.

  3. My previous comment did not capture the real reason why the Golgi apparatus was superior. The Golgi apparatus (with some assistance from the RER) creates the lysosome. The RER and Golgi apparatus collaboratively create the digestive enzymes and body for the lysosome. The Golgi apparatus also provides some waste for the lysosome to digest. Therefore the Golgi apparatus deserves all of the praise given to the lysosome because without the Golgi, the lysosome would not exist.

  6. The lysosome is an important organelle, but without the ribosome, it's not functional. To explain, the lysosome which contains enzymes is composed of proteins. Ribosomes are responsible for protein synthesis, which without it, the lysosome can't perform the following functions:

    - enzymes released outside of the cells.
    - break down materials inside the cell.
    - recycling waste or other excess products of biochemical process like cellular respiration.
    - break down the cells that have died.

Ultimately, without the function of the ribosomes producing proteins then the lysosome is unable to perform the functions that are mentioned above, which in other words is the primary roles of the organelle.

  7. I agree that lysosomes are important. But compared to the Smooth Endoplastic Rectilium, the lysosomes play a very small part. It only contains protiens that preform a certian task. The smooth ER however, prodouce metabolism, fat and sugars for the body that are required to live. The smooth ER is also involved in the creation of a new cell membrane. Sorry, but without a cell membrane there would be no cell to start with, therefore making the smooth ER the most important.

The Nucleus What is A Nucleus   - The nucleus is basically the brain of the cell, it controls eating, movement, and reproduction....
