The Cell Wall

      The Cell Wall is the most outer layer of a plant cell. It contains three contributing layers to the wall. These three layers include the Middle Lamella, the Primary Cell Wall, and on some cell walls the Secondary Cell Wall. The Middle Lamella is a layer that contains pectins. Pectins are what help with cell adhesion. In simple terms, this means that this helps all cells stick together to stay rigid. The Primary Cell Wall is the layer that acts as protection towards a cell when being attacked by viruses, it also acts as strength and stability for the entire cell. The Secondary Cell Wall only appears in some plant cells. It develops when the primary cell wall finishes its division and growth, this causes the wall to thicken which develops the Secondary Cell Wall. Another important act the Cell Wall performs is communication to other cells. It also regulates cell growth.

Why is the Cell Wall the Most Important Organelle?

- The Cell Wall's primary wall acts as a essential line of defense from viruses that attack the cell. Without this protection from the Cell Wall, the organelles inside the cell would suffer the consequences and would be completely compromised.

- It is vital for communication with other cells. If there were no forms of communication between the trillions of cells in a tree, it would not be capable of distributing the nutrients needed for it to survive. This example is parallel with hundreds of other plants.

- The Cell Wall provides strength and stability to a cell's structure mechanically. The cell wall is what gives plant cells their regular and usually hexagonal shape. It also contributes to the overall structure of the host that the cell is in. For example, the cell wall contributes to holding up a sunflower and its rigidity.

- The Cell Wall's Middle Lamella layer contains the pectins that act as the adhesive which keeps the trillions of cells in a plant sticking together. If there was no cell wall, the cells of a plant would not stick together nearly as good as cells with cell walls.

Why wouldn't you vote for me? I'm the Golgi!


Never heard of me? I will tell you a little bit about myself..
I am a membrane-bound organelle of eukaryotic cells made of flattened, stacked pouches called sisternae. I am found in both plant and animal cells. My job is to transport, modify, and package proteins and lipids into vesicles for delivery to different places around the cell. You can find me in the cytoplasm, next to the endoplasmic reticulum, or near the nucleus.


Why am I the most important?
  • I am like a mailroom, processing proteins generated in the ER and transporting them to different parts of the cell
  • Without me, you would lose your DNA because DNA is composed of protein
  • I organize everything within the cell
  • Without me, the cell would only live for a short period.
  • If I did not exist, the proteins wouldn't be able to travel to other cells, causing more and more cells to die off

How do I function?
I gather simple molecules combining them to make them more complex. I take the more complex molecules and turn them into vesicles. I either store them or send them out of the cell. The vesicles are sent off the cell membrane and travels within the cell

Chloroplast


The Chloroplast, the Backbone of the Plant Cell


     Have you ever wondered why plants are green? Must be something important for it to be so common, right? 
HECK YEAH IT'S IMPORTANT! 
     Plants are green because green is the natural colour of chlorophyll, found in the chloroplast. Why is the chloroplast so important? It supplies energy to the rest of the cell, that helps keep every other cell alive. The chloroplast is like the farmer of the cell, no other cells could do their job without the chloroplast to harvest the raw energy. How does the chloroplast get energy? Through a process called photosynthesis. 
     Photosynthesis is a process in which carbon dioxide and water, fueled by sunlight is turned into oxygen and glucose (sugar). The glucose is turned into ATP by the mitochondria, which is used as energy by the cell. You see, without the chloroplast there would be no glucose, and therefore no energy.

     In conclusion, the chloroplast is the most useful cell because it is the source of all energy in the cell. Without it, all other cells would be useless.

*Reasons why chloroplast is the best organelle*
  • Chloroplasts are the source of virtually all of the world's food and fuel and much of its oxygen supply, and as such life on Earth depends on them.
  • When chloroplast absorbs the energy of the sun, it turns the energy into sugars known as the process of photosynthesis and is a life time supply of food that is easy to obtain.
  • as well as making sugars (or glucose) chloroplast is also responsible for making other important plant products such as fats, oils, proteins and scents that are used to making perfumes or colognes.
  • If every organism had chloroplast organelles every organism would never be hungry.
  • Chloroplast uses sunlight, water, and Co2 to make sugars/glucose and releases oxygen into the atmosphere and benefits any living organism.

What is the cell membrane?
The cell membrane is a double layer of lapids and proteins that surrounds the entire cell. It is semipermeable and controls what leaves and enters the cell. All cells have them.

          Why is it so important?
The cell membrane's importance revolves around 3 main ideas;
1. Regulating what comes in and outside the cell. This allows the cell to get access to molecules and such that the cell needs to survive that other organelles retrieve.
2. Keeps ou bad bacteria and viruses that could be harmful to the cell. Without it the cell could be invaded or taken over.
3. Holds the cell together with no cell membrane there wouldn't be a cell, everything would fall apart from one another.

I the Mitochondria am the most important organelle in the cell. I am 
the main reason why cells and organs are energized and why they are able to function.I am known as the “powerhouse of the cell” and carry some of my own DNA. I play an important role in the cell as I convert the carbon dioxide you breathe and the food you eat into energy that is used to function the cell. My organelles are known to give energy to the cell and is responsible for generating chemical energy for your body. I produce my energy by turning glucose and oxygen into a chemical called ATP, which then transports energy to all the cells in your body. I give you energy meaning without me your muscles that need a lot of ATP will start to become weak and your body wont process right. I the mitochondria play an important in the cell.
